Local Authority Active Inclusion network launched
A new Network of Local Authorities' Observatories on Active Inclusion (NLAO) under the banner of the EUROCITIES organisation will see five member cities set up 'observatories' to monitor the local implementation of social policies and identify good practice. These instigator cities will report on governance arrangements; procurement practice; and provisions for quality management in a range of social service areas with particular emphasis on training/employment as well as social and supported housing. Each observatory has pledged to engage with NGOs, the research community and public bodies at national level with EUROCITIES coordinating this work and producing comparative reports. This initiative, supported and financed by the European Commission, is an attempt to significantly boost urban local authorities' influence by putting cities' concerns centre stage in both EU and national social policy-making.
