The 2009 Call for proposals under the Civil protection Financial Instrument Cooperation is now open. This programme supports and complements Member States' efforts to protect people and property in the event of natural and man-made disasters, terrorist acts and technological, radiological and environmental accidents. It also facilitates co-operation between Member States in the field of civil protection. Cooperation projects may cover either prevention or preparedness themes.

The European Commission's Tourism Unit has published a call on "Knowledge Networks for the competitiveness and sustainability of European Tourism" with the overall objective to provide added value in improving the performance of European tourism, through the creation of an environment favourable to small tourism businesses and to their cooperation on related issues.

The call will co-finance initiatives of public and private bodies, or their existing networks, aiming to demonstrate to small and micro companies that adopting and implementing sustainable practices is an important aspect of long-term competitiveness.

Around 30 transnational projects of European interest will be supported from a total budget of EUR5.8 million for Action Grants under 6 themes:
- Protection of the rights of the child;
- Combating racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism;
- Fighting homophobia through enhanced understanding and tolerance;
- Active participation in democracy;
- Training and networking between legal professions/practitioners;
- Data protection and privacy rights.

9 March: European Fund for Integration of Third Country Nationals: common indicators to assess integration policy outcomes; common European modules addressing specific integration issues; links between admission policies and integration processes and the impact of new patterns of immigration and mobility.

23 March: European Refugee Fund: furthering Community cooperation in setting up of transnational cooperation networks and pilot projects based on partnerships; actions which support studies, dissemination and exchange of information on best practice in asylum policies and on cooperation between local and regional authorities, refugee associations and voluntary groups; exploring the possibility of new forms of Community cooperation on asylum; supporting the development and application of common statistical tools, methods and indicators for measuring policy developments; support services in the event of emergency situations.
