The 2008 call for proposals has been published for the 3 components of Life+: Nature and Biodiversity - To protect, conserve, restore, monitor and facilitate the functioning of natural systems, natural habitats, wild flora and fauna, with the aim of halting the loss of biodiversity, including diversity of genetic resources, within the EU by 2010 Environment Policy & Governance - To improve environment in the following areas: climate change, water, air, soil, urban environment, noise, chemicals, health, natural ressources and waste, forests, innovation, strategic approaches Information and Communication - To disseminate information and raise awareness on environmental issues, including forest fire prevention; and to provide support for accompanying measures, such as information, communication actions and campaigns, conferences and training, including training on forest fire prevention Financed actions may include best-practice, demonstration projects, and awareness-raising campaigns. Local and regional authorities or associations thereof are invited to involve themselves in the development of a Network of Observatories on ‘active inclusion’ (adequate income support plus access to inclusive labour markets and quality social services) under PROGRESS, the Community programme for employment and social solidarity. This call aims to support transnational cultural projects, organisations, activities and research across 5 areas: - Multi-annual links (deadline: 1 Oct.) - 2 Year Cooperation projects (1 Oct.) - Literary translation (1 Feb. 2009) - Cooperation with third countries (cultural exchanges) (1 May 2009) - Support for cultural organisations active at European (1 Nov.) Funding for ICT use in energy efficiency and sustainability in urban areas and public buildings and spaces will be available through a call launched on 29 April (until 9 September) under the ICT Policy Support Programme within the context of the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP). The call covers Objectives 2.1 (pilot actions on "ICT for energy efficiency in public buildings and spaces, including lighting") and 2.3 (networks for "consensus building and experience sharing in ICT for energy efficiency and sustainability in urban areas") relating to smart distributed power generation or sustainable urban development and management. The second call will be launched on 4 July with a 19 September deadline. Round one was a good start for the Programme. It approved six projects with an ERDF grant commitment of roughly €6.3 million. Over €40 million remains available in Priorities 1 - delivering Knowledge, Innovation and Skills for Growth - and Priority 2 - Climate Change and Sustainable Regeneration. This call aims to recognize excellence and high standard in conservation practices, the exchange of experience and encouragement of further efforts through examples. This is part of the implementation of Culture 2007 Categories: - Conservation & enhancement - Research towards tangible effects - Outstanding dedicated service by individuals/organizations - Education initiatives, training schemes and awareness raising programmes.
