In order to capitalise on the experience of various local development initiatives (ERDF, ESF – EQUAL, and LEADER, for example), and to encourage further awareness raising of successful local employment strategies, the European Commission has published a call for proposals for Projects Contributing to Local Employment Development.

The objective of the call is to: encourage sharing of best practice and transfer in local employment development strategies and initiatives; facilitate knowledge acquisition to support implementation of Structural Funds at the local level; and involve the private sector more directly in the preparation of local employment strategies and initiatives. All projects should provide for experience transfer between old and new Member States. It is envisaged that 3 or 4 projects will be funded, in the form of conferences with background papers. The European Commission has published a number of calls for proposals under the new Culture Programme 2007-2013.

The calls cover the following areas: Support for bodies active at European level in the field of culture (deadline: 5 November 2007); Support for cultural actions: multi-annual cooperation projects and cooperation measures (sectoral or cross-sectoral cultural actions of a shorter duration and smaller scale, which aim at exploring avenues for longer-term cooperation among cultural operators) (deadline 31 October 2007); Networking of organisations carrying out evaluation or impact assessment activities in the field of cultural policies (deadline: 1 October 2007); and literary translations (deadline: 1 October 2007 and 1 April 2008).
